Dallas developer KDC said Tuesday that it’s formed a new division to build and invest in medical properties.

KDC – formerly Koll Development – will work with hospitals and physicians to develop and invest in medical buildings all across the country.

“We determined that one of the strongest growth opportunities is the medical industry, where many hospital systems have significant capital tied up in real estate,” Tobin Grove, KDC president, said in a statement. “Once KDC has worked with the hospitals to free up the capital, the hospitals can then focus on their business strategy and financial planning.”

KDC has hired Nathan Golik, an 11-year medical industry veteran, to head the new operation.

“Our current pipeline includes opportunities in Texas, California, Colorado and North Carolina,” said Golik, who will be a senior vice president.
Golik was previously vice president of Dallas-based Cirrus Group, one of the county’s biggest medical building developers.
KDC already has one medical office project on Walnut Hill Lane near Presbyterian Hospital.

Last summer, KDC formed a partnership with Dallas investors E2M Partners and Sammons Enterprises to seek new real estate opportunities. The medical building division is one of several new initiatives the company is working on.
KDC builds facilities for major corporations. The developer has done 90 such projects valued at more than $2.5 billion.
