Chevron North Park Wins 2009 Tilt-Up Achievement Award

Completed in just eight months, this $78-million project consists of multi-story office wings, a central amenity area with a large meeting space, a full-service kitchen and a fitness center. The 300,000-square-foot facility serves as the headquarters for the Gulf of Mexico Operations for the Chevron Company that previously operated in the New Orleans but had to relocate as a result of Hurricane Katrina. The goal of the project was to create a facility that would minimize the risk of weather-related business disruptions, while creating an office environment that would attract and retain quality employees.

Chosen for its versatility in fast-track construction, architectural appeal and durability, Tilt-Up construction provided the owner structurally sound advantages needed for building within a hurricane zone. Tilt-Up construction is not very common in lower Louisiana. As such, the Chevron project is one of the largest Tilt-Up projects constructed in the state.

Overall, the project provided many challenges from conception to completion. For example, the aggressive schedule provided complexities in construction and erection, and due to site constrictions, the team had to simplify the erection process. The schedule and conditions were met by using casting slabs and bracing to the outside in order to allow for steel erection to continue inside once the panels were erected.
